Pirate Signal

Every Legend hears her before they meet anyone who knows her.

Panel 1 of 5. Lowline at night: graffiti-covered broadcast towers under concrete overpasses, lit windows behind them.

Lowline. Under the overpasses, every window has a radio.

Panel 2 of 5. A frightened young Legend hides in an alley holding a glowing radio as a drone's searchlight sweeps past.

NYX STATIC (over the radio): Checkpoint's live on the overpass. Go under, not over.

Panel 3 of 5. Legends in white-gold, glitch-green and rust-orange fight among wreckage in the Deadband under huge loudspeakers.

NYX STATIC (over the radio): Banners up, Legends. Nobody's calling this a war, so I will.

She calls the Deadband war from directly underneath it.

Panel 4 of 5. Meridian technicians track a signal across a wall map of the city, their screens full of green static.

Meridian has spent three years trying to trace her.

The signal never lands in the same place twice.

Panel 5 of 5. Nyx Static, seen from behind, stands at a microphone in a room walled with green monitors.

NYX STATIC (over the radio): Stay loud.

Only the cell ever learns what she actually is.
