Freerunner
No weave, no wings, no excuses.
What it is
In the dev build The line runs in the development build.
- Kind
- Skill. Nothing is installed and nothing is worn: it is trained, so a Cleanskin can run it.
- Terrain
- Dense interiors, alleys, the Warrens: anywhere the other lines run out of room.
- Opens at
- Operator 10, at the First Splice.
- Cost to master
- 22 points.
The city is a surface and you have read all of it.
The cost
The slowest top speed of the eight lines by a wide margin, and the deepest mastery curve. Nothing about this line is free. What you get back is the only line that engagement never clamps, because you were already moving at fighting speed.
The tree
In the dev build The Operator 30 node also asks for this line's story, which is designed.
Seven tiers, from Operator 10 to Operator 50. The choices come at Operator 15 (Cat Feet or Long Arms) and Operator 40 (Wallwright or Railwright), and taking one closes the other.
- Operator 10
Wake
The City Is Handholds. Wall-runs, a wall-jump before the ground, and a forgiving jump window. A Cleanskin gets this node free.
- Operator 15
Form fork
Take one. Cat Feet. A faster mantle. Long Arms. The wall-run holds much longer before gravity gets a word in.
- Operator 20
Reach
Rail Sense. Grind marked rails.
- Operator 25
Cadence
Flow. A faster mantle that keeps most of your speed, and a second wall-jump before the ground.
- Operator 30
Questline node
No Fall Recorded. Faster grinds with grind attacks, the air-combo vault, and a perfect-dodge counter.
- Operator 40
Apex fork
Take one. Wallwright. The wall-run stops decaying. Railwright. Switch rails mid-grind, even onto a rail running the other way.
- Operator 50
Capstone
You Got The City Instead. Grind-to-grind transfers across open gaps, so the city becomes one continuous rail.
Nobody signed anything. You just stopped treating walls as the end of the street.
Every rail in the Yards runs somewhere. Most of them run downhill.
The mantle is the beat. Everything else is between beats.
They kept the sky. It turns out that was the smaller half.
Culture
Exemplar. The Wick runners, who never registered anything.
Freerunners are traceurs first and Legends second.
