Thirteen screens

Each screen has one prompt, quoted below as the creator shows it.

In the dev build The creator runs in the development build and stores a new Legend on the server when you register.

The prompts below are the creator's own words. Several of them hand you on to another page: the choice of archetype, faction, origin, powers and movement each have their own.

Nothing in the creator is generated by AI. You make every choice yourself, and a Randomize button can rough out a look to start from.

  1. Screen 1

    Archetype

What are you? Seven are open. Revenant is shown locked, because it is earned at a rite. See Archetypes.

  2. Screen 2

    Faction

Whose city is it? Meridian, the Undercurrent, Scrapline, or Unwritten to decline. A head start, not a rank. See Factions.

  3. Screen 3

    Origin

How did you get them? Spliced, or Cleanskin. See Cleanskin.

  4. Screen 4

    Powers

What can you do? Pick a Primary, which leads, and a Secondary, which comes with it. See Powersets.

  5. Screen 5

    Movement

How do you cross the city? Declares a travel line. It grants nothing until the First Splice at Operator 10. See Travel lines.

  6. Screen 6

    Body

Present yourself. Build, proportions and height.

  7. Screen 7

    Face

Who do they see? Skin, hair colour, eyes, makeup, ink and a sculpt.

  8. Screen 8

    Wardrobe

What do they see coming? Piece by piece across the slots, or from a ready-made set.

  9. Screen 9

    Wings & gloves

What rides on your back. Gloves, wings and a banner.

  10. Screen 10

    Augments

How much of you is still you? Cosmetic chrome.

  11. Screen 11

    Colors

Pick the color they'll write about. Palette, pattern, per-part colour, your accent and your power look.

  12. Screen 12

    Identity

Sign the file. Alias, pronouns and a kill signature.

  13. Screen 13

    The file

This is who the city gets. A summary card, and then you register.

Body

Two base frames, three builds (lithe, athletic and heavy), and sliders for muscle, shoulders, waist and height. The creator labels the two frames masculine and feminine. Pronouns are chosen separately.

Pronouns are picked in the identity screen. They default to they, so a Legend the player has not told the game about is never guessed at.

The frame under everything else. Build is the silhouette; the sliders decide whose it is.

Face

Skin, hair colour and eye colour, then shapes for the eyes, nose and mouth, a run of makeup looks (warpaint, tech-tears, a painted domino, a registry barcode worn as a boast, scanlines), face ink, and a sculpt for brow, eyes, lips and chin.

Faces do not animate. On most Legends the mask is what people see.

Catena mostly sees the mask. This is what is under it — the bones, the eyes, the paint, the ink.

Most of this shows under an open mask. The sealed helms cover it — that is also a choice.

Wardrobe

A look is built piece by piece across the slots below, or in one press from a ready-made set. Every piece has to change the silhouette. A recolour of an old piece does not count as a new one.

The faction sets are costume. Wearing one does not join you to anything, and the registry reads none of it.

Wardrobe slots and what sits in them
SlotWhat it changesSome of what is in it
TorsoThe biggest change to your silhouette.Intake jacket, courier jacket, lattice weave, flight harness, hero suit, boned bodice, exo frame, trench coat, kimono, clinic scrubs, overalls
LegsHow you stand.Cargo trousers, plated tassets, war kilt, cuffed denim, flared skirt, hero trunks, drop-leg rig
BootsHow you land.Jet boots, sabatons, mag boots, split-toe boots, siege stompers, heeled boots
GlovesWhat your hands read as from far off.Talons, bracers, projector cuffs, driving gloves
MaskWhat the street sees of your face.Three families: masks (registry visor, half mask, SALVO helm, respirator, oni plate, fox mask), hoods, and helms (crested, riot, war helm, diving bell, signal helm)
HairThe one thing a mask does not cover.Fade, braid, locs, afro, wolfcut, twintails, mohawk, fibre-optic braids
BannerThe holo-banner that stands in for a cape, cut by how it hangs.Standing collar, shoulder mantle, formal train, hip drape, stole
WingsHolo-hardware on your back.Holo wings, tech feathers, thruster pack, dragonfly wings, seraph light, lift pods, broken wings
AugmentsCosmetic chrome. Take none and the city still calls you a Legend.Chrome arms, arm plating, chrome legs, leg plating, half faceplate, ocular implant, cranial jacks, jaw plate, spine plating, chest reactor, back rack
The fifteen one-press sets
SetThe look
A blue-and-white patrol setThe city's own idea of a licensed Legend: patrol helm, long banner.
FringeStreet anonymity. The Legend the registry never got a photograph of.
BreacherAll plate.
SkybreakFlight harness, aero helm, holo wings.
RedlineCourier jacket, visor, nothing that catches wind.
DiverLattice weave and lit circuitry.
SpectreSealed rig, dazzle camouflage.
OniStreet myth: lacquer and ink.
MeridianWhite and gold, a blank face.
ScraplineRust and amber, with a salvage diving bell.
UndercurrentGlitch-green bomber, veiled hood.
CommonsMoss on sun-bleached concrete, poncho and goggles.
CascadeBroadcast-ready, designed to be photographed rather than survived in.
SentinelFull powered exo-frame.
NovaThe classic: trunks over tights, seraph light for wings.

Wings and banners are holo-hardware: they take your accent, not your palette.

Chrome limbs, optics and spine hardware. Take none and the city still calls you a Legend.

Accent and power look

Your accent is one emissive colour. It tints your abilities, your Surge and your name, and strangers learn to know you by it. There are named swatches (Cold Cyan, Signal Violet, Ghost Teal, Static Lime, Glacier, Ion Teal, Night Indigo, Orchid Burn, Flare Pink) and a picker for anything else.

The band from red to amber is reserved for enemies, and the picker marks it as reserved. Revenant is the one archetype allowed into it.

The power look is separate. It sets the colour your powers burn in, from eight tints (Live Wire, Verdigris, Reef Glass, Sky Signal, Deep Cobalt, Nightshade, Ultraviolet, Hot Orchid), and one of five styles: energy, plasma, cryo, void and tech.

This is the color of your power. It tints your abilities, your Surge, and your name.

The accent picker

Your accent is the color the city files you under; this is the color they burn.

The power-look picker

It doesn't brighten at full power. It darkens.

On the void style

Cold-cyan accent, three-beat finish. That's the one from the Row.

A passer-by

Identity

An alias, which is the name the city files. Pronouns: they, she or he. And a kill signature, the sound-word that pops on your finishing blow.

The signature is optional. Together with the accent it is how a masked Legend gets recognised from a rooftop away. Sharing a whole Legend as a link is part of the design and is not built.

2–10 letters, up to two bangs. Optional — silence is a personality.
