Super speed
Redline
Somewhere in the works there is a conveyor still running at delivery spec.
What it is
In the dev build The line runs in the development build.
- Kind
- Weave. The Clinic installs it at the First Splice.
- Terrain
- Long straights: expressway decks, the arterials, anything with room to open up.
- Opens at
- Operator 10, at the First Splice.
- Cost to master
- 22 points.
Your legs subscribe to it.
The cost
You need runway. A clean start spools the line up, and any hit, any clipped railing, any doorway drops you back to a walk. At top speed you steer in drift arcs, so alleys and market lanes are hostile, and you cannot cross the Cut, a rooftop gap or a collapsed stack at all.
The tree
In the dev build The Operator 30 node also asks for this line's story, which is designed.
Seven tiers, from Operator 10 to Operator 50. The choices come at Operator 15 (Short Fuse or Long Legs) and Operator 40 (Afterimage or Slipstream), and taking one closes the other.
- Operator 10
Wake
Overdrive. Clean sprinting arms a speed ramp. Any hit drops it and the entry starts over.
- Operator 15
Form fork
Take one. Short Fuse. Overdrive arms faster. Long Legs. Full turn authority holds to higher speeds, so the drift band starts later.
- Operator 20
Reach
Open Road. A higher top speed, and the ground boom.
- Operator 25
Cadence
Wall Work. Run along walls, and dash without losing the ramp.
- Operator 30
Questline node
Time Owes You. A new top speed, and a wall impact staggers you instead of stopping you.
- Operator 40
Apex fork
Take one. Afterimage. Contact at overdrive speed knocks enemies back instead of staggering you. Slipstream. Allies inside your wake move faster for as long as they hold it.
- Operator 50
Capstone
The City Is A Straight Line. The line's top speed, and a bubble where the world outside keeps its own time.
Three clean seconds. Patch times it on a stopwatch he stole from a Sweep van.
A wall is a floor you have not agreed with yet.
Running point for a crew is the oldest job on the Scrapline.
Catena is nine districts and one route. You are the only person who can see it.
Culture
Exemplar. The courier who outran the first Sweep.
Redline runners are the city's speed-demons, half courier economy and half street-race culture.
