Swing

Graviton

Crane permissions. The oldest maintenance right in the city, and the proudest.

What it is

In the dev build The line runs in the development build.

Kind
Weave. The Clinic installs it at the First Splice.
Terrain
The mid band: tower to tower, canyon to canyon, where the city has bones to hang from.
Opens at
Operator 10, at the First Splice.
Cost to master
22 points.
Young Vector hauls a heavy cable along a gantry walkway at the Yards, other dockworkers behind him in the rain.
The Yards, where the crane permissions live.

Gravity does the swinging; you just choose when to let go.

The cost

Anchors or nothing. With no anchor in reach you are a pedestrian: open plazas, open water, the Deadband floor and the rim are all dead ground. You get no height from a standing start, because you need something above you, and your arcs are parabolas that anyone can lead.

The tree

In the dev build The Operator 30 node also asks for this line's story, which is designed.

Seven tiers, from Operator 10 to Operator 50. The choices come at Operator 15 (Long Line or Fast Hands) and Operator 40 (Crane Writ or Deadweight), and taking one closes the other.

  1. Operator 10

    Wake

First Anchor. A tether and the pendulum it hangs from. There is no reel: you get the arc gravity gives you.

  2. Operator 15

    Form fork

Take one. Long Line. A longer tether. Fast Hands. The tether takes hold almost as fast as you can look.

  3. Operator 20

    Reach

Reel. Hold the travel verb to reel in.

  4. Operator 25

    Cadence

Apex Release. Letting go at the top of the arc adds speed, and a wall-attach clings, then launches.

  5. Operator 30

    Questline node

Double Anchor. Two tethers at once, a slam release, and the power to anchor an enemy.

  6. Operator 40

    Apex fork

Take one. Crane Writ. Anchor on any tall face, not only the marked anchor points. Deadweight. Carry a consenting ally through the whole arc, release included.

  7. Operator 50

    Capstone

The Arc Remembers. A released arc keeps its speed through one blind corner.

The Yards' crane permissions, still live, still addressed to nobody.

First Anchor

Let go one beat early and the city hands you the rest.

Apex Release

Two permissions at once was never in the spec. The spec was written in 2074.

Double Anchor

Momentum is the only thing in Catena that was never registered.

The Arc Remembers

Culture

Exemplar. The Yards, and whoever first read the crane writ out loud.

Graviton swingers are dockworkers who took to the grapple-tether the way their grandparents took to a crane cable.

Your grandmother did this from inside a cab.
